INFLUENCE OF TEACHERS' FEEDBACK ON SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS' CADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN MATHEMATICS IN OSUN STATE

The study assessed the influence of teachers' feedback on senior secondary school students' academic achievement in Mathematics in Osun State; determined the feedbacks' adopted by Mathematics teachers’ in senior secondary schools Osun State; and examined the influence of feedback on senior secondary school students' academic achievement in Mathematics in the study area. These were done with a view to improving senior secondary school students' academic achievement in Mathematics in the study area.
The study adopted the descriptive survey research design of correlational type. The study population comprised all Mathematics teachers and students in senior secondary schools in Ile-Ife, Osun State. The sample for the study consisted of 40 Mathematics teachers and 400 students who were selected randomly using simple random sampling technique. Two instruments were used for data collection, namely: “Teachers’ Feedback Questionnaire’’ (TFQ) and “Students' Last Term Results in Mathematics”. Data collected were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean and regression analysis.
The results of the study showed that the level of senior secondary school students' academic achievement in Mathematics was moderate at 50.3%in Osun State. It also revealed that corrective feedback (x=3.28),evaluative feedback (x^2.71) and descriptive feedback (x_=2.65) were the various feedbacks adopted by the Mathematics teachers in senior secondary schools in the study area. The result of the study further showed that there was significant influence of teachers’ feedback on senior secondary school students' academic achievement in Mathematics in the study area (F=3.675; p < 0.05). The study concluded that teachers’ feedback had significant influence on senior secondary school students' academic achievement in Mathematics in Osun State.
