Abstract

The study examined the influence of gender and type on primary school pupils' mathematics achievement in Iseyin LGA of Oyo State. The population for the study comprised of all mathematics primary school pupils in Iseyin local government area of Oyo-State. The sample for the study consisted of 200 pupils chosen from four elementary schools using a simple random sampling technique based on their gender and type of school. The study employed a descriptive survey design. At the significance level of 0.05, one research question and two hypotheses were investigated. The Pupils Mathematics Achievement Test (PMAT, R=0.97)was a validated researcher-constructed instrument. Statistical methods such as frequency, percentages, averages, standard deviation, and non-parametric t-test were employed to analyze the data. School type of school had a big influence on how well pupils did in mathematics. The mathematics achievement of male and female pupils did not significantly different. The study concluded that gender does not influence progress in primary school mathematics.
